Rachel Bowman Overton, 97, formally of Richmond, VA, departed from this life and entered into the presence of the Lord on April 25, 2022. Rachel was born March 21, 1925, to the late Wortha and Mary Lou Bowman in Victoria, VA.

Rachel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Willie “Billy” Claiborne Overton. She is survived by her son, Gary and his wife Rebecca of Greensboro, NC; two grandchildren Amy Overton and Andrew Overton; a sister, Leona Hazlewood of Kenbridge, VA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart.

Rachel retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections. Rachel was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren attending dance recitals, ball games, and baking delicious treats for them. She always encouraged her grandchildren to pursue their dreams and has left them with many sweet memories of the things she taught them over the years.

The family would like to extend a special thanks with immense gratitude to the staff and caretakers at Spring Arbor Senior Living of Greensboro and Authora Care Hospice for the loving care given Rachel over the past several years.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria, VA.
