    I am so sorry for the loss of a brave and wonderful man. He sacrificed much for many and yet never complained or boasted.

    So many fond memories.. you served your country proudly. We thank you..Never complaining of the trials you endured.. Such a kind wise soul.. Rest Easy now..enjoy the card games with Gran, Judd,and Frank once again ..they have been waiting for that Bid of 4.. You will be missed.

    Bernard was a staple around the courthouse area at Lunenburg. He was a kind soul to many. Praying for his family to be comforted.

    Bernard Lacy Overby, 81, of Lunenburg, Va. passed on January 30, 2023. He was the son of the late Howard Lacy Overby and Annie Mae Chandler Overby and brother of the late Betty Mae Hudson. A Purple Heart recipient, Bernard sacrificed his mobility as a disabled Vietnam veteran with honor, endurance and fortitude for which his family takes much pride. He was a member of VFW POST 9952. Bernard was also a master gardener, electrician and real estate investor. He is survived by sisters, Frances Lee Overby and Nannie Irene “Patty” McKinney, and brother, Carl Edward Overby, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bernard was beloved by friends and family in the Lunenburg Courthouse area and at Hickory Hill Retirement Community in Burkeville, Virginia. He was a good person who always thought of others first. Viewing will be held at Staples Funeral Home in Victoria, Virginia on Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until the commencement of funeral services, with military honors, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to: Victoria Fire and Rescue, P.O.
