    Herman Bryce Hancock

Herman Bryce Hancock of Victoria, Virginia, a lifelong Southern Baptist, went home to be with the lord on August 28, 2018. The cause of death was complications from a massive stroke. The son of Bryce Anderson Hancock and Grace Elizabeth Daniel Hancock, Herman was born on November 11, 1935. He is survived by the love of his life, his loyal and devoted wife of 56 years, Patricia Ann Bagley Hancock, as well as a daughter who cherished and loved him deeply, Tammy Hancock Murray (John) and two loving and admiring granddaughters, Jill (Joel) and Ann. He is also survived by a sister, Millie Hancock Coffman (Jon) of Victoria, two nieces and their four sons. Herman was born at home on a farm in Danieltown. He went on to graduate in 1954 from Victoria High School and then served the Army Signal Corps with distinction during the peacetime draft. He served for decades with dedication as an electronics technician at Fort Pickett in Blackstone. During his tenure, he excelled in continuing education. While serving, he saw many countries, including Germany, France and the Netherlands. Later, he tirelessly served the town of Victoria as supervisor of the water plant. After devoting so much time and energy to his work, he enjoyed many years of active retirement. Herman was dependable, loyal, and an aficionado of the King James Bible. Always generous and sacrificial, he cheerfully gave money to family, friends, and even acquaintances. He loved cars, especially Lincoln, Ford, and AMC AMX models. Nicknamed “Speed” in high school, he insisted that every car he drove had a V8 engine. At the time of his death, he was keeping eight cars on the road. His generosity included giving cars to several family members. His family was especially happy for him when he realized his dream of making a trip to watch the Indianapolis 500. Inspired by the song “Kansas City” by Wilbert Harrison, he took his wife and young daughter on a whirlwind five-day trip in his 1965 Thunderbird to visit the city. He drove his wife, daughter, and parents to New Orleans and back in his 1969 Lincoln Continental Mark 3, making sure to see Biloxi, Mississippi, since he liked the song by the same name as sung by Kenny Price. In later years he drove family members to multiple appointments and made many visits to see family in Northern Virginia. He enjoyed spending time with family, including a trip to Niagara Falls and Canada that encompassed touring the Ford Plant in Dearborn, Michigan, an anniversary trip to Las Vegas and a Disney World vacation. Now that the unique personality has been taken from us, the world is abundantly less fun and bright. He will forever be missed by countless friends and family whose lives he touched for so many years. We all now have a hole in our hearts that will never again be filled this side of Heaven. Our family is appreciative of any remembrance your heart leads you to make. We would be blessed by any contribution in his memory to Victoria Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 1, 1 p.m. in the Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge with the family receiving friends for the hour prior to services. Interment in Crestview Memorial Park, LaCrosse, Virginia.
