    Lofton Leon Durham, Jr.

    Lofton Leon Durham, Jr., 77, of Wake Forest, NC and formerly of Colonial Beach, VA died on August 24, 2021. He was born January 21, 1944 in Alexandria, VA son of the late Lofton Leon Durham, Sr. and Annie Lucas Smith Durham. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nellie June Dunnavant Durham and his three children and ten grandchildren. His son Dr. Lofton Leon Durham, III, wife Nancy Young and children Arthur and Howard; daughter Amanda June Durham Franko Wells husband Sam Wells, Jr., and children Cameron Franko, Brayden Franko, Addison Franko, Griffin Franko, Charlotte Wells , Sammy Wells, III; son Jonathan Ezra Durham, wife Amy Henry Durham, children Callie Durham and Henry Durham; two sisters, Deborah Durham Soper and Denise Durham Pauletti. Mr. Durham graduated from Wakefield High School, Arlington, VA in 1962 And received a BS in accounting from the University of Maryland in 1972. He served his country for four years as an army security analyst stationed in Ethiopia and Korea and at Vint Hill Farms Station in Virginia.

    He found his true calling in association management. He served three different non-profits over thirty-two years as a finance officer ending as chief financial officer for the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO). During this time he was a member of the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives and the American Society of Association Executives. He earned the designation of CAE (Certified Association Executive) and at the time of his death was a CAE Retired. He always liked the fact that in association management you worked the mission not the product. To him it was a higher calling.

    During his tenure at NAHRO, Mr. Durham was staff  in charge of delivery of a new headquarters building for the association. He was in charge of all construction management functions. The building is located at 630 Eye Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20001. Mr.  Durham was very proud of this accomplishment.

    Mr.  Druham was a member and past treasurer of Ephesus Christian Church.

    Graveside funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 22482 Prince Edward Highway, Rice, Virginia 23966
