I feel I was blessed to know Mildred when I lived in Lunenburg County and belonged to the Southside Herb Society. Whenever I visited her and walked with her around her beautiful gardens I learned something new.She was a gracious hostess, a talented cook and always greeted her friends with a welcoming smile. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Davis was such a kind person. She helped our 3 sons prepare for "real school." They loved her and were always anxious to go to Mrs. Davis's house. We extend our love and sympathy to her family. Ron and Anita Mattox

Sorry to hear about Mrs.Davis. She was my Kindergarten teacher. I remember my grandmother walking me from Sixth Street to Fourth Street in Victoria, where the Kindergarten was, like it was yesterday. I remember the big human sized plastic blocks, and the cardboard Three Little Pig's house, and the outdoor swings. I learned to write, read, and paint there. I remember one Christmas she gave me a Berenstein Bears book which I loved to read. I loved Mrs. Davis, and she will be missed. I know she is with the other angels in Heaven. Heartfelt Sympathy to her family.

Mildred Stancill Davis, 95, went to join her Lord on November 24, 2021.  Born and raised in eastern North Carolina, after living many years in the mountains outside of Asheville, she made her home in her beloved Lunenburg Courthouse, VA. There, the Davis Preschool impacted many a child from Lunenburg county. Her son often said fondly it was hard for him to go anywhere in town and not run into either someone Mrs. Davis had taught or one of their parents. She loved every single one of these children. In going through her estate, artwork, photographs and paper clippings were discovered to have carefully been kept for all these decades. Mrs. Davis was also known for her passion for her yard. On any sunny morning, until only recently, a visitor would find her transplanting flowers and composting her beds. Or inside, sitting at her kitchen window admiring her garden and watching the birds, surrounded by books about herbs, perennials, and country cooking. She attended the Victoria Presbyterian Church and was an active member of the Southside Virginia Herb Society and local Garden Clubs. Her final days were spent under the attentive and loving care of her grand-niece April Easter and niece Beverly Shaver at The Whippoorwill Hill Adult Home in Amelia Courthouse, where she roomed with her younger sister Evelyn Ray. Survived by her daughter Joy, son-in-law Andrew, and treasured grandchildren Ian and  Elena Vincent of Odessa, Florida; her sister, Evelyn Ray Johnson of Amelia, and nephew Charles Johnson Jr. of Chester. Predeceased by her husband Oliver, and son Bruce M. Davis. Warmth & special thanks goes out to her dear friend Doris Blackwell who assisted in the care of Mrs. Davis, allowing her many extra years of living independently in her own home. And to the entire Dr. Lewis Bridgforth family who were always like a second family to her. The family will receive friends at the Staples Funeral Home in Victoria on Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 10:00AM until start of services at 11:00AM. Interment in the Lakeview Cemetery, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her life, please consider donations to the Victoria Public Library or Lunenburg Health Services.
